| Funding BASICS London
BASICS London is a registered charity, number 1002819 which depends entirely on donations from the public to fund its important work. Unfortunately the scheme is not supported financially by central or local government or the NHS, and scheme members have to meet a lot of their day-to-day costs themselves. Doctors do not get paid for being available to respond for the ambulance service. All Ambulance Doctors in London use their own vehicles for their 999 work, and receive no recompense for petrol, maintenance, mileage or additional insurance.
It can cost up to £20,000 to fully equip a doctor with personal protective equipment, medical kit and medicines, communication and monitoring equipment as well as keeping up to date with training courses and providing blue lights and sirens for their vehicles. Without financial help from you, the public, BASICS London cannot provide the 24 hour, 365 days a year medical cover for the people of Greater London and the surrounding counties.
A big thank you to Jenny and Lawrence, who have decided to ask all the guests at their wedding in February 2009 to donate to BASICS-London, in lieu of gifts.
